Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Kadoink, Inc. ("Kadoink", "we", "us", "our") collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers the website at kadoink.com and the Kadoink applications for iOS, Android, and desktop (together, the "Service").

By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you accept the practices described here. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the Service. Read this Policy alongside our Terms of Use and our Rules of the Road.

Kadoink is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from another country, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.

What This Policy Covers

This Policy covers information Kadoink handles. It does not cover the practices of companies we do not own or control, including the third-party services named below, sites you reach through links on Kadoink, or applications you choose to connect to your account.

Information You Give Us

Account information

To register, you provide four things: a username, a password, a mobile phone number, and an email address.

  • Your username is your public identity tag and the address of your profile page. It is visible to anyone.
  • Your password is stored only as a cryptographic hash. We cannot read it.
  • Your mobile phone number must be verified before the account exists: we send a one-time code by text message, or read it to you on an automated voice call, and create the account only once you confirm it. Every Kadoink account has a verified number, because the Service places real calls and sends real texts. Your number is not shown on your public profile; other people reach you through your username.
  • Your email address is used for the welcome message, account notices, sign-in links, and the one-time code we send as a second factor when you sign in.

We also record that you agreed to the Terms of Use and this Policy, and separately that you consented to receive text messages, along with the time you gave that consent.

Your profile and the things you post

Everything beyond the four fields above is optional. That includes your display name, avatar, photos, video, audio and music you upload, a self-declared school and city, your Top 8 friends, profile modules and comments, instant-messaging handles, the widgets you create, and the statuses, messages, and mini-chat posts you write.

Some of this is public by design. Anything on a public profile, a public widget page, a shared media link, a pin-drop event page, or a public join link can be seen by anyone who has the link, including people who are not signed in. Choose accordingly.

Contacts you import

You can add contacts one at a time, paste a list, or import them from your device address book in the mobile app. Imported entries may include other people's names, phone numbers, email addresses, and birthdays. We use them to build your own contact list and to tell you which of your contacts already have Kadoink accounts, so you can follow them instead of inviting them. If you choose to invite, we send a text message invitation to the numbers you selected. Every import is tracked as a batch that you can roll back, which deletes the entries it created. Please import only contact details you are entitled to share.

Information We Collect Automatically

  • Server logs. For each request we record the date and time, the HTTP method and path, the response status, how long it took, a request identifier, your IP address, and — when you are signed in — your account identifier. We use these to operate the Service, diagnose failures, and investigate abuse.
  • Cookies we set. A session cookie ("kadoink_session") and, if you ask to be remembered, a longer-lived sign-in cookie. These exist to keep you signed in. Blocking them means you cannot sign in.
  • Cookies and identifiers third parties set. See "Analytics and Advertising" below.
  • Device and notification data. If you turn on notifications, we store the push token your platform issues — from Apple or Google via Expo for the apps, or a Web Push subscription from your browser — so we can deliver a call invitation or message alert. We also record basic client information such as platform and app version.
  • Diagnostics. Errors and performance samples are sent to Sentry, our monitoring provider. When an error occurs in your browser, Sentry may capture a replay — a reconstruction of the page as it appeared at that moment — to let us reproduce the fault. We have configured Sentry not to send request headers, request bodies, cookies, or your IP address; your account identifier is attached so we can connect a crash report to a support request.

Information From Other Sources

Other people may add you to their contact list or import your details from their address book, and may invite you to Kadoink by text message. If someone invites you, we process your phone number to deliver that invitation even if you have never used the Service. You can reply STOP to any Kadoink message to stop receiving them.

Calls, Recording, and Transcripts

Kadoink carries voice and video calls over servers we operate, and can bridge an ordinary phone line into the same call through our telephone provider. This section is important, so please read it.

  • Calls are recorded. Recording is on for Kadoink calls. The recording is saved to the account of the person who started the call, who can play it, download it, or delete it. There is currently no per-person opt-out: if you do not want to be recorded, do not join the call.
  • You are told before it starts. Every participant hears an audible notice that the call is recorded before joining, and a participant dialing in by phone hears it before pressing a key to accept.
  • Call records. We keep details about calls whether or not you answer: who invited whom, when, how long it lasted, which channel was used, and whether it was answered, declined, or missed. Missed calls appear in your inbox.
  • In-call chat is saved. Messages typed during a call persist as a transcript after the call ends. It is readable by the host and by invitees who actually joined — not by someone who was invited and never answered.
  • Voicemail, videomail, and solo recordings that you record are stored in your own files.
  • Limits. Calls are capped at thirty minutes and recordings at ten gigabytes.

Kadoink AI and the Microphone Button

Kadoink has a microphone button that turns spoken requests into Kadoink commands. When you use it:

  • The audio clip you record is sent to ElevenLabs, which converts it to text.
  • That text is sent to Anthropic, whose Claude model maps it onto a single Kadoink command.
  • The command is then run by Kadoink, which independently re-checks your permissions — the AI layer can never do something you could not have typed yourself.

Both providers process your audio and text on our behalf to return that result. Please do not speak anything into the microphone that you would not want handled by them. The microphone is used only when you activate it; Kadoink does not listen in the background.

ElevenLabs also generates the spoken prompts you hear on Kadoink phone calls. A verification code that is read aloud is synthesized into a one-off clip at an unguessable address and deleted from disk shortly afterwards, so a spoken code is never kept or guessable from its link.

Location Check-Ins

Location sharing is off by default, and nothing is collected until you turn it on. When you do:

  • Check-ins are manual. A position is recorded only at the moment you tap "Check in now". Kadoink does not track you in the background, does not watch your position on a timer, and collects nothing while the app is closed.
  • You choose who sees it — your contacts, your followers, only people you follow back, or followers and contacts together.
  • You choose how exact it is. If you share an approximate position, only a deliberately coarsened point is ever sent to viewers; your exact coordinates never leave our servers for that audience.
  • We keep no location history. We store one record per person — your current check-in and the previous one, so a paused sharer shows as "last seen here" instead of vanishing. There is no movement trail to mine.
  • Check-ins expire in one hour. After that they no longer appear to anyone, and a scheduled job clears out stale positions so coordinates are not retained indefinitely.
  • You can turn it off at any time, which stops sharing immediately.
  • If you create a public location-share link or a pin-drop event page, anyone holding that link can see what it shows until you disable it.
  • Maps and address lookups are served by Mapbox; loading a map sends your IP address to Mapbox.

Separately, photos you upload have all embedded metadata stripped before storage, including the GPS coordinates that phone cameras record. We do not derive your location from your uploads, and the city on your profile is whatever you typed, not something we inferred.

Analytics and Advertising

Kadoink pages load the following third-party services. Each may set its own cookies or identifiers and receive your IP address and the page you are viewing, governed by its own privacy policy rather than this one:

  • Google Analytics — how the Service is used, in aggregate.
  • Google AdSense — the advertising shown on Kadoink.
  • Microsoft Advertising (UET) — advertising measurement.
  • Google reCAPTCHA — telling people from bots on the sign-up and sign-in forms.
  • Sentry — error and performance monitoring, as described above.
  • Mapbox — only on pages that draw a map.

We do not sell your personal information for money. You should know, however, that some state privacy laws define "sale" and "sharing" broadly enough to cover advertising and analytics tags like the ones above. You can limit them through your browser's cookie controls, your device's advertising settings, Google's Ads Settings, and Microsoft's advertising opt-out.

How We Use Information

  • To create and secure your account, verify your phone number, and sign you in.
  • To deliver the Service: place calls, send texts and emails, ring your devices, carry your messages, host your media, and show your profile to the people you have chosen.
  • To interpret voice commands you speak into the microphone.
  • To show you who is nearby when, and only when, you have turned on check-ins.
  • To notify you about calls, messages, follows, and other account activity.
  • To keep the Service working — debugging, monitoring, capacity, and rate limiting.
  • To detect, investigate, and act on abuse, fraud, and violations of our Terms.
  • To measure usage and to select and measure advertising.
  • To comply with the law and enforce our agreements.

When Kadoink Shares Information

We neither rent nor sell your personal information. We share it in these situations:

With other users, as you direct

What you post, who you follow, and what your profile shows are shared according to the settings you choose. A public profile is public. Contact details you explicitly share with another user are shared with them.

With service providers who run parts of the Service for us

  • Telnyx — text messages.
  • Twilio — voice calls and bridging phone lines into calls.
  • ElevenLabs — speech-to-text for the microphone, and text-to-speech for spoken prompts.
  • Anthropic — interpreting voice commands.
  • Mapbox — maps and address lookup.
  • Apple, Google, and Expo — delivering push notifications.
  • Google and Microsoft — analytics, advertising, and bot protection.
  • Sentry — error and performance monitoring.
  • Our email delivery provider.

They receive only what they need to perform their function and may not use it for their own purposes, except that the advertising and analytics providers named above operate under their own policies.

Media you upload is stored on servers we operate. Where we use cloud object storage, the storage is private, there are no public file links, and every request is authorized by Kadoink before any bytes are served.

Mobile Information and Text Message Opt-In Data

No mobile information will be sold or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent (including your mobile phone number and the fact that you opted in to receive text messages from Kadoink) will not be shared with or sold to any third party. Sharing with service providers acting on our behalf, such as our text message delivery provider, is permitted solely as necessary to deliver the messages you requested. You can opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP to any message; reply HELP for help.

Our personnel

Our staff, contractors, and consultants may access user information where their duties require it, subject to confidentiality obligations.

To protect Kadoink and others

We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with law or legal process, to enforce our Terms of Use and other agreements, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Kadoink, our users, or the public, including for fraud prevention and abuse investigation.

Business transfers

If Kadoink or substantially all of its assets are acquired, user information may be one of the assets transferred. We would notify you of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information.

Applications You Connect

Kadoink supports authorizing outside applications to act on your behalf through OAuth. When you approve one, you see and grant a specific level of access — reading your data, writing to your account, or sending outreach on your behalf — and the application receives a token limited to what you approved. Only grant access to applications you trust. Contact us to have an authorization revoked.

Your Choices

  • Text messages. Reply STOP to any Kadoink text to stop receiving them, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.
  • Notifications. Turn push notifications off in your device or browser settings, or in Kadoink's settings.
  • Profile visibility. Make your profile public or protected, and approve follow requests individually.
  • Blocking. Block any user to cut off their ability to reach you.
  • Location. Leave check-ins off, or turn them off at any time, and choose the audience and precision when they are on.
  • Media. Delete anything you have uploaded.
  • Cookies. Your browser can refuse cookies, though you will not be able to sign in without ours.

Accessing, Correcting, and Deleting Your Information

You can view and change your account details, profile, and contacts at any time from your settings.

You may delete your account from your settings or from the apps. We ask for your password first, so a stolen device or token cannot destroy your account. Deleting closes the account, signs out every session, and stops the account resolving anywhere on the Service.

Some information will remain after deletion. Recordings of calls hosted by someone else belong to that person's account. Messages you sent to other users remain in their inboxes. Contact entries other people created about you belong to them. Records we must keep for legal, security, or anti-abuse reasons — including text-message consent records — are retained, and residual copies may persist in logs and backups for a period after deletion.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising them. Write to us at the address below and we will respond as the law requires. We may need to verify your identity first.

Security

Passwords are stored as cryptographic hashes and never in readable form. Traffic between you and Kadoink is encrypted in transit. Signing in from a new session requires a one-time code sent to your email address in addition to your password. Your uploaded media is served only after Kadoink checks that you are allowed to see it — there are no public file URLs. Access by our personnel is limited to those who need it.

No system is perfectly secure. Protect your own account by using a strong, unique password and signing out of shared devices.

Age Requirement

Kadoink is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. It is not directed to children, and no one under 18 may use it — a parent's permission does not change that.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete the personal information associated with it. If you believe a minor has given us personal information, contact us at the address below and we will act on it.

Other Web Sites

The Service links to sites we do not control, and other sites link to us. Their privacy and security practices are not covered by this Policy, and we are not responsible for their content or their handling of your information.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may amend this Policy from time to time. Information we hold is handled under the Policy in effect at the time it is used. When we make a material change, we will post a notice on the Service and update the effective date below. Please review this page periodically.

Questions or Concerns

For privacy questions, to exercise any of the rights described above, or for anything else in this Policy, email help@kadoink.com. To report abuse, use our abuse report form. Your privacy matters to us and we will make every effort to resolve your concerns.
